Envelope
Stuffing Scam
We
have heard from many people around the country who have
sent in money to a company in Texas called IMEX, Inc.
In return for $35, the company promises to send envelopes
to stuff for $2.00 per envelope. Unfortunately, they have
not heard from the company since they sent in their check.
First,
let me say that we are NOT that company. We are IMEX Exchange,
Inc. of New York City, and we are in the Internet business.
We
do not know this company in Texas or have any affiliation
with them. We cannot tell you whether they are legitimate
or not. However, ask yourself a few questions:
- Does
it make sense to have to pay someone to work for them?
- Does
it make sense to send money to someone you do not
know especially when they do not publish a phone or
fax number on their literature?
- Does
it make sense that someone would pay you $2.00 per
envelope PLUS the cost of shipping you material PLUS
the cost to send the material back to them when a
machine can do the same work for much less WITHOUT
the double shipping costs?
- Does
the literature guarantee you work or only the promise
of work (maybe)?
The
FBI and the Fraud Division of AOL have been notified and
are investigating. The FBI told IMEX that the envelope
stuffing scam is an old scam.
If
you have sent in money, do NOT call us or e-mail us. We
cannot help you. We suggest you notify your state Attorney
General's office and see if they can help. You should
also notify you local TV news station consumer reporter
who might be able to help.
We
wish you success.
