United Gilsonite
Laboratories Continues its Tradition of Quality and Progress
"Quality
products, responsible advertising and fair business practices."
That was the late Gerald Payne's commitment to United Gilsonite
Laboratories (UGL) when he started the company in 1932.
Since that time, many things have changed. New products
have been added, existing facilities have been expanded
and new ones built. Through it all, dedication to making
quality products for the care and repair of the home has
remained at the heart of the development. Today, UGL manufactures
over 80 products. Product lines include ZAR®
wood finishes, DRYLOK® masonry products,
ZAR® RAIN STAIN® exterior
stain, UGL® -brand caulks and sealants and
TEMPROOF® stove and fireplace products.
Facilities
and Sales Staff
In
addition to its manufacturing plant and corporate headquarters
in Scranton, Pennsylvania, United Gilsonite Laboratories
also operates a manufacturing plant in Jacksonville, Illinois.
UGL opened the facility in 1986 and expanded it in 1993.
Also in 1993, UGL opened a distribution center in Jackson,
Mississippi, to better serve the expanding southern markets.
In
1996, UGL relocated its western distribution center from
Visalia, California, to a new manufacturing and distribution
facility in Dayton, Nevada, a site geographically positioned
to better serve its customers. Because of its location on
Interstate Route 50, freight can be shipped overnight to
more than 80% of the western marketplace.
In
2000, UGL built a new manufacturing facility in Jackson,
Mississippi which will house both distribution and manufacturing.
UGL
is also proud of its 70-member, full-time professional sales
staff. The sales force calls directly on retailers, making
sure they receive the marketing and merchandising support
needed to gain maximum benefit from the UGL sales program.
The new and expanded facilities and dedicated sales staff
will help continue that commitment throughout the remainder
of the 1990s and beyond.
Outlook
For the Future
While
UGL reflects on the past, it looks forward to a promising
future. Sales continue to increase and the customer base
continues to expand. Nevertheless, the goals and ideals
initiated by Gerald Payne over 65 years ago are very much
a part of today's United Gilsonite Laboratories and will
remain in the years to come.
